WORLD HERITAGE WEEK

REPORT ON WORLD HERITAGE WEK CELEBRATION HELD AT JAIN UNIVERSITY FROM 19TH TO 25th NOVEMBER, 2023 ORGANIZED BY YUVA CLUB Jain University Yuva Club conducted World Heritage Quiz Competition on 23-11-2023 as part of World Heritage week celebration. The event was held in class room itself from 8.00 AM to 9.15 AM and 8 students participated and they competed individually. We had student volunteers for scoring and taking photos. Dr G Saravana kumar Professor & Mentor, who is also the coordinator of Yuva club, Jain University, welcomed all the participants and spoke about the significance of world heritage week and the importance of preserving our monuments. Dr Rachana Saxena, Professor of tourism spoke about the importance of heritage sites which brings more tourists, revenue and employment for a country and said hence students should be aware of the heritage sites. She wished all the students and made them to clap to cheer up. The rules for the quiz competition was first read to the participants and all questions were displayed on screen using Over-head projector with 4 choices and 30 seconds given for each question to be answered monitored by a scorer. All questions were asked on world UNESCO heritage sites. Thre were four rounds of questions and finally one visual round and the student has to identify the heritage site from the choices given. Finally after 5 rounds the scores were read and there was tie between 4 participants and hence again one question was asked for each participant and one got eliminated, among three participants again one more round of questions were asked and finally the 3 winners were finalized. First prize won by Ms. Maha Harini of 3rd year BMS- Tourism & Hospitality Management. Second Prize won by Mr. Gopalkrishna Masudi of 3rd year BMS- Tourism & Hospitality Management. Third Prize won by Mr. Aditya Krishnan of 2nd year BMS- Tourism & Hospitality Management. The winners were congratulated by event organizers and photos were taken. All participants were appreciated for their interest and participation by DrG. Saravana kumar & Dr Rachna Saxena. Event Organizers were Dr G Saravana kumar & Dr Rachna saxena All the three winners were informed that they will get certificate from Director, Ministry of Tourism, Bengaluru. On 25th November, we had presentation activity for the THM students in class room. Dr G Saravana kumar and Dr Rachana Saxena first presented the Karnataka heritage sites tourism brochure for the students and spoke about the important UNESCO heritage sites in Karnataka and its significance. This was followed by Student presentation. First Aditya sharma a student of II year BMS- Tourism &Hospitality Management made a presentation about Chittorgarh fort and told its one of the largest fort in the world and second longest wall in the world and its history details and length etc were presented in nice manner by Aditya. This was followed by presentation by Shriram T shreesh who presented on UNESCO heritage sites of Taj Mahal, Ajanta, Yellora & Elephanta caves, Agra fort and Khajuraho temples with photos as PPT. It was very informative to all. After this Dr G Saravana kumar presented a video of 30 minutes show casing 15 Unique and amazing UNESCO sites of the world.1.Mesa verde National Park, USA which is huge archeological site which has evidence of 9500 years of human civilization. 2. The Acropolis, Athens, Greece which has number of buildings 3 . Lasko Caves, France which has 95,000 years old paintings underground. 4. Angor watt, Cambodia which is largest Hindu temple complex in the world which has 402 acres area built by King Surya Verma-II which later became buddhist temple also. With this the world Heritage week celebration came to an end and Dr G Saravana kumar , Coordinator, Yuva Club thanked all students for their participation.
