Southern Regional Office, Ministry of Tourism , Government of India had organized an Awareness Tour to the Crafts Bazaar for School Students of RAAK International Higher Secondary School ,Puducherry. Gayatri Panda, Nodal Officer/ Tourism Manager, Puducherry , MoT briefed on the richness of Indian Handicrafts .Familiarized the importance of Puducherry Handicrafts by encouraging “Vocal for Local” . Students interacted with the Artisans from all over the India and learned Pottery making from the workshops conducted by Mr.N.Shanmugam and Mrs.P. Mary Theresa, making Palm Leaf handicrafts from Mary Theresa famous Artisans of Puducherry . Students interacted with the artisans and got informations on Chettinad Kandangi cotton sarees, Ikkat fabrics from Hyderabad, Anantapur Nammalakunta Leather puppetry & lamps ,Kantha & Batik sarees from Kolkata, designer hand-woven silks from Kanchipuram , designer Meenakari jewellery from Jaipur , Bamboo décor crafts, Ceramic studio pottery, Eco lights & lampshades, contemporary wood crafts & mirrors ,Buff Leather crafts, Natural dyed dresses & hand marbled clothes & accessories , Banana Bark Crafts, Palmyra leaf & Korai grass crafts ,Candles & Perfumeries ,Stone Crafts etc would be some to mention from the wide variety of exquisite crafts that would be available directly from artisans at the bazaar. We are happy to inform that along with award winning artisans, social enterprises working actively towards development of crafts among village communities like Forest Way ,Thiruvannamalai, CAST (Community Action for Social Transformation), Tirunelveli, Thiravu, (Sirkazhi), ,Bhavm Murals (Wyanad, Kerala).
