World Tourism day was celebrated at CMR University, City Campus by Yuva Tourism Club of School of Liberal studies on 25th September,2025 from 2,30 pm to 4.00 pm in AV Hall. The event was organised by Dr G Saravana Kumar Professor emeritus and Yuva Tourism club coordinator from School of liberal studies and Dr Latha Krishnan, Dean, SLS. The theme announced for this year by UN Tourism was Tourism and Sustainable Transformation. As part of the celebration we had 5 competitions namely Essay, world countries tourism painting , Poster making based on theme, Tourism Quiz and one minute reels (video) competition. The main event was conducted on 25th September and the Chief guest was Mr Srinivas Rao, Cluster Director HR of Hilton Manyata Group of Hotels. The event was presided by Dr HB Raghavendra Vice Chancellor of CMR University. Chief guest spoke on the opportunities in Hotel Industry and explained how students should equip themselves with additional skills and adapt themselves to new environment and work culture. Vice chancellor said it was first time World tourism day is being celebrated in CMR University and said in the next year it should be celebrated combining all campus of CMRU and appreciated the Yuva tourism Club,School of liberal studies for taking the initiative. The event also had the inaugural of Yuva Tourism Club which is sponsored by Ministry of Tourism and it was symbolically inaugurated by our Vice chancellor Dr HB Raghavendra and chief guest Mr Srinivas Rao in the presence of Dr Latha Krishnan Dean SLS. The event started with invocation Bharatha Natyam dance by Ms Deva Nanda of MSc Psychology 1 sem,which was on lord Rama and was very professional. It was followed by Welcome address by Dr Latha Krishnan, dean SLS and felicitation of chief guest by our Vice chancellor. We also had the investiture ceremony for Yuva club student members for whom badges were fixed by the dignitaries and they took a pledge for responsible traveller read by Dr G Saravana kumar, Yuva tourism club coordinator. There was a tourism cultural ramp walk showcasing 8 states of India performed by students of SLS actually native of the respective states with a commentary on the tourism and culture which was very colourful and appreciated by the audience. There was a hindi song performance by Ms. Debleena Msc Psychology 1 sem student. Prizes were distributed to all the winners of various competitions by the dignitaries along with certificates. Videos of competitions conducted, Malaysia host country and Karnataka tourism were played. Ministry of tourism had sponsored Yuva tourism club badges were fixed to Yuva tourism club members on stage and Pledge for responsible traveller was administered by Dr G Saravana Kumar Professor and Yuva Tourism club coordinator for CMR University to the student members and tourism brochures were issued to the students. The event ended with Vote of thanks by Dr G Saravana Kumar, Professor emeritus and Yuva tourism club coordinator, CMR University.

In order to celebrate the World Tourism Day, the Yuva Tourism Club of Hajee Karutha Rowther Howdia College, Uthamapalayam, Tamil Nadu organized a special Talk on the United Nations World Tourism Organizations theme, ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation’ on 26. 09.2025. Dr. M. Jannathul Firdhouse, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Hajee Karutha Rowther Howdia College, Uthamapalayam served as the Resource Person of the programme. The event aimed to create awareness among students about sustainable and responsible tourism practices. In her address, Dr. Jannathul Firdhouse emphasized the need for sustainable tourism and highlighted how the tourism industry impacts the environment. Forty-five students benefited out of the programme.

The Yuva Tourism Club of Hajee Karutha Rowther Howdia College organized a one-day field trip for women’s students on the theme ‘From Excavation to Civilization: Field Visit to Keezhadi and Madurai’ on 21.08.2025. A team of 47 students, along with four faculty members took part in the trip. The team visited the Archaeological Museum at Keezhadi in Sivagangai District and the Kalaingar Centenary Library located in Madurai which is one of the largest libraries in Tamil Nadu. The trip aimed to create awareness about Archaeology and Tamil civilization, as well as to help students in understanding the role of libraries in the preparation of Competitive Examinations and Research. The trip provided the students with both educational and experiential learning opportunities for the students.

A group of eleven men teaching staff of Hajee Karutha Rowther Howdia College, Uthamapalayam undertook a trekking from Kurangini to Sambalaru located at the foothills of the Western Ghats in Theni district, covering a distance of 5 k.m. During the trek, they visited Samabalaru Falls, Kottakudi River, Kottakudi Dam and several hidden falls. They passed through the lush green wild pastures, shola patches, cascading waterfalls and breathtaking scenic views. A watchtower located along the trekking route provided panoramic views of the famous Kolukkumalai hilltop and nearby peaks. The trek instilled a spirit of adventure among staff members. On their way they got themselves learned the ways to protect the forest instructed by the forest officials who accompany them.

The theme of World Tourism Day is ‘Tourism and Peace – A sustainable, better future for all.’ The aim of celebrating world tourism day is to highlight the global significance of tourism as a tool for global development and cultural enlightenment. Countries all over the world, whether big or small, are dependent on tourism for its economic survival and highlight their culture, social and political values. The event commenced with a warm welcome by Mr. J. Prince Antony, Vice Principal, Institute of Hotel Management, SRMIST, The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. N. Sambandam, Executive Director, SRMIST; he highlighted how tourism can transcend boundaries and promote unity among nations, followed by Dr. D. Francis Xavier Christopher, Dean, Science and Humanities, SRMIST, delivered the Felicitation Address. He praised the importance of the day’s theme and spoke about how the SRM community has always been forerunners in embracing global peace through education and hospitality. The keynote speech was delivered by Mr. K. Nelson, District Tourism Officer, Tiruchirappalli. Mr. Nelson delved into the relationship between tourism and peace, sharing real-life examples of how tourism initiatives in Tiruchirappalli have helped foster community relations and cultural exchange. He stressed the need for sustainable and responsible tourism practices that can create a more peaceful and equitable world. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. M.D. Ragulkannan, Assistant Professor, IHM, SRMIST. This event was hosted by the club of Mavericks, co-convened by Mr. Vijayaganesh and supported by the staff and students of SRM IHM, Tiruchirappalli. Dignitaries appreciated the students with prizes and certificates who were presented their skills in our various events. In addition to these celebrations, the Operations manager and Human Resource Manager from Courtyard Marriott, Tiruchirappalli also joined in our event. The students participated wholeheartedly and learned about different career scopes in the tourism industry. It was the most amazing and memorable experience as a takeaway for our future builders of tourism.

A seminar on “Drug Abuse: Causes and Prevention” was held at Eswari Auditorium, SRM IST, Tiruchirappalli, in the presence of 500 pulse students aimed at raising awareness about the pressing issue of drug abuse among youth. The event began with a warm Welcome Address by Mr. J Prince Antony, Vice Principal of FSH, SRM IST Followed by him, Dr. D. Fransis Xavier Christopher, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Humanities, delivered the Presidential Address, emphasizing the importance of educating students on the dangers of drug abuse. The Guest of Honour, Dr. K. Anbazhagan, Dean of Student Welfare, highlighted the role of universities in supporting student well-being and promoting preventive measures against drug abuse. The Guest speaker, Mr. S. Senthil Velan, Drug Inspector from the Food Safety and Drug Administration, provided an in-depth analysis of the causes of drug abuse and effective prevention strategies. He stressed the need for vigilance and community involvement in combating this societal issue. The seminar concluded with an engaging discussion and the Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all participants.
