Telangana view allIn order to celebrate the World Tourism Day, the Yuva Tourism Club of Hajee Karutha Rowther Howdia College, Uthamapalayam, Tamil Nadu organized a One-Day Seminar on the theme ‘Sustainable Practices: Transforming Communities through Micro Tourism’ on 27th September, 2024. Mr. E. Baskaran, District Tourism Officer, Department of Tourism, Govt. of Tamil Nadu and Ms. K.C. Raihanath, Assistant Professor of History, Hajee Karutha Rowther Howdia College acted as Resource Persons. Mr. Baskaran delivered his presentation on ‘Tourism in Theni District’ and addressed the opportunities and challenges of Tourism in Theni District. He highlighted the major tourist spots in Theni district and the new proposals of Tamil Nadu Government in promoting Tourism sector in the state in general and Theni district in particular. He asserted that it will create more employment opportunities and urged the students to seize these opportunities. Ms. K.C. Raihanath made her presentation on the topic of ‘Fostering Peace through Sustainable Tourism Practices’. She elaborated the theme of this year World Tourism Day, ‘Tourism and Peace’ and emphasized the role of tourism in bringing international peace. Earlier, the programme was inaugurated by college Principal Dr. H. Mohamed Meeran and key note address was delivered by Dr. N. Mohamed Sameem, IQAC Coordinator of the college. A group of sixty students of the college were benefited out of this programme.

The celebration also highlighted Uttarakhand's rich cultural heritage through vibrant performances and local cuisines. Prizes were awarded for outstanding contributions in cultural and culinary competitions, creating a memorable and impactful event focused on sustainability, local culture, and career development.

It is the part of larger Swacch Bharat Abhiyan,a nationwide initiative to promote cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene across the country. Swachhata hi seva is the annual event that typically takes place from 15 th September to 2 nd October.Under this programme, all the students from Samarth Group of Institutions College of Engineering Yuva Parytan Club participated and Even teachers were the essential part of this drive. As a part of this Cleanliness Drive, we had to clean the premises of Rajuri (Unchakhadak). Students from Yuva Parytan Club were participated in the event.

On this occasion we have organised a Guest Lecture on "Tourism and peace" by Prof. Mrs. Sarode V.B. 65 students attended the function enthusiastically.
Maharashtra view allAs part of the celebration of World Tourism Day, the staff and students of our Research Department of Hotel Management & Catering Science participated in a Cleaning Campaign organized by the Department of Tourism, Tamil Nadu, under the Swachhata Pakhwada scheme on September 27, 2024. Twenty-five students from the B.Sc. Hotel Management and Catering Science program participated in this initiative, accompanied by our faculty members, Mr. S. Yoganand and Mr. S. Samuel Anand Kumar. In alignment with the World Tourism Day celebration, our students cleaned the entire premises of Anna Planetarium. They took an oath with the public to raise awareness about “Swachhata Pakhwada.” The theme for Swachhata Pakhwada 2024 is "Clean and Green India" and "Waste to Wealth." After taking the oath, our students distributed awareness pamphlets to tourists visiting the site. Later, our students, faculty, and the Tourism Officer of Trichy planted saplings at Anna Planetarium, Tiruchirappalli, to raise awareness about the importance of trees among the younger generation and the local community. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activities and gained valuable insights into the history, growth, and development of Anna Planetarium. Outcomes of the Cleaning Campaign: 1. Enhanced Environmental Awareness: Participants and the general public gained a greater understanding of the importance of cleanliness and sustainability, promoting the ideals of "Clean and Green India." 2. Active Community Participation: The event fostered a sense of community involvement, with students and faculty collaborating with the public to promote environmental responsibility. 3. Practical Experience: Students engaged in hands-on activities, such as cleaning and planting, which enriched their understanding of environmental stewardship and community service. 4. As a part of the celebrations, our students engaged in a community activity at Mukkombu, one of the important tourist spots in Tiruchirappalli, by conducting an awareness campaign to educate tourists on the importance of enjoying tourism without disturbing the ecosystem. They distributed pamphlets that outlined a list of Do's and Don'ts for visitors at tourist sites. Tourists appreciated the students' efforts and expressed their commitment to follow the suggested guidelines to engage in tourism responsibly. Outcomes of the Awareness Campaign: 1. Increased Awareness: Participants and tourists gained a better understanding of the importance of sustainable tourism practices and the need to protect the ecosystem. 2. Tamil Nadu view allA field visit for our department's students was organized at Anna Planetarium, Tiruchirappalli, on Monday, September 23, 2024. Twenty-five students from the B.Sc. Hotel Management and Catering Science program participated in this visit, accompanied by our faculty members, Mr. S. Yoganand and Mr. S. Samuel Anand Kumar. The visit commenced at 10 a.m., and the team spent nearly two and a half hours exploring the premises of the planetarium and viewing the various exhibits on display. The planetarium is conveniently located near Tiruchirappalli International Airport. Established on June 10, 1999, the Anna Science Centre aims to educate the new generation and the general public, in line with the mission of the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre. The centre is particularly popular among school and college students, offering educational services that highlight the relationship between science and the environment. The educational gallery features numerous exhibits that demonstrate the effects of biodiversity, conservation, ecosystem themes, pollution, sustainable energy sources, and biogeochemical cycles. Financial support for this educational facility was provided by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited. The Planetarium: “The Source of Planets and Galaxies” The planetarium is the main attraction of the Anna Science Centre and is well worth a visit. This significant project, along with its accessories, was donated by the Government of Japan under the Cultural Grant-in-Aid Scheme. The planetarium contains about 11 galleries, each illustrating the characteristics of various natural energies, the Earth, and advancements in science and technology. It serves as a favourite educational spot and a source of inspiration for all the generations. Educational institutions from surrounding areas such as Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Perambalur, Karur, and Dindigul frequently organize trips for students to the Anna Science Centre to enhance their knowledge of science and technology. Science enthusiasts will find a wealth of information and inspiration here. The planetarium's amphitheatre features advanced technology for presenting shows in both Tamil and English. Tamil shows are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., while English shows take place at 11:45 a.m., 2:15 p.m., and 4:45 p.m. The students thoroughly enjoyed the visit, expressing that they gained valuable knowledge about the history, growth, and development of Anna Planetarium and “The Source of Planets and Galaxies,” as well as its contributions to education, and research.
